AEW's first video game, AEW Fight Forever was released in 2023 and continued to receive updates, like new characters, through mid-2024. Since then, fans have questioned whether or not the company will release a new game, as many are used to yearly releases from WWE and 2K Games. New reports indicate, however, that a new game is not on the horizon for AEW.According to Mike Straw Media, via F4WOnline, sources indicated that the company took a "massive loss" on Fight Forever, to the tune of at least $30 million. That was partially due to the game being delayed from an original release of 2022, to the summer of 2023. AEW also owns the engine that the video game was created on, though Straw did not indicate whether or not that was included in the $30 million price tag."It also did not sell all that well," Straw said. "They had their certain limits, or expectations, but from what I've been told is it got about roughly half their expectations were."Despite owning the engine, Straw said that AEW does not have a relationship with the video game's developer, Yuke's. The company could find a new developer, however, for titles to be released in the future, or new rosters and content to be added to Fight Forever. Straw said that the company would be interested in revisiting games "way down the line," but didn't indicate when exactly that could be.Fight Forever features a lot of modes and matches, unique to AEW, that fans were initially excited about. Some of those include the ability to play Casino Battle Royals, Exploding Barbed Wire Death Matches, and in an update to the game, Stadium Stampede matches. The game was also reportedly inspired by the beloved "WWF No Mercy" for the Nintendo 64.
