Liverpool are set to welcome another group of billionaire investors, with a consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reportedly closing in on the purchase of a significant minority stake in the Premier League club. According to Sky News, Fenway Sports Group (FSG) is preparing to announce the sale of a stake worth around one-third of the club, with a deal potentially being confirmed later this week.Bezos is expected to join the investor group alongside Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, while the consortium is led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and a former shareholder at Queens Park Rangers.Liverpool value among highest in the world The investment would reportedly value Liverpool at around 4.5bn, making it one of the biggest valuations ever attached to a football club.Bezos, whose personal fortune is estimated by Forbes at more than $280bn, has never previously been linked with a move into football ownership, while Saverin worth an estimated $32bn was part of the consortium that unsuccessfully attempted to buy Chelsea in 2022.The proposed investment comes at a time when footballs financial landscape is under intense scrutiny following FIFA president Gianni Infantinos abandoned plans to sell a stake in the commercial rights to the World Cup and other major tournaments. That proposal prompted fierce opposition from several governing bodies and reignited debate over the commercial direction of the sport.FSG has owned Liverpool since 2010, overseeing one of the clubs most successful periods in modern history, including Premier League and Champions League triumphs.
