The Los Angeles Lakers are entering a new chapter, and Luka Doncic is already stepping into the spotlight.With LeBron James now in Philadelphia, Doncic has reportedly taken on an even greater leadership role by organising a four-day team minicamp in his home country of Slovenia ahead of training camp.The gathering will bring the entire Lakers roster together in August for a mix of basketball, team bonding and off-court activities, according to ESPN NBA reporter Dave McMenamin.The trip will feature workouts, golf, bonding and touring Ljubljana, the capital city, McMenamin reported.The minicamp marks Doncics first offseason as the undisputed face of the Lakers after the franchise officially turned the page following James departure.Although Los Angeles had already begun building around the Slovenian superstar after acquiring him in February 2025, James remained a central figure alongside Doncic and Austin Reaves until leaving in free agency.Now, Doncic is embracing the responsibility of leading the next era.The six-time All-NBA First Team selection is also looking to bounce back after an injury-shortened campaign.Before suffering a Grade Two left hamstring strain in April, Doncic was producing MVP-calibre basketball and finished the regular season averaging a league-best 33.5 points per game.The injury ruled him out of the Lakers playoff run, where Los Angeles was eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference semifinals.The Slovenia trip will also allow Doncic to spend valuable time with several new teammates before camp officially opens.Doncic was excited about the Lakers bringing back Austin Reaves and trading for former Utah Jazz centre Walker Kessler, according to The Athletics NBA reporter Dan Woike.Related Article: People Are Losing Their Minds Over LeBron's Choice to Join the 76ersRetaining Reaves and adding an elite rim protector were reportedly among Doncics biggest priorities during the offseason, making this minicamp an opportunity to strengthen chemistry before the season begins.READ MORE: Draymond Green Commits Future to Warriors
