Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP. Hjulmand moves to the Metropolitano on a deal until 2031, becoming Atleticos second signing of the summer transfer window. The 27-year-olds arrival follows that of left-back Alejandro Grimaldo, who joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen last month. Denmark international Hjulmand made 142 appearances for Sporting over three seasons in Lisbon, scoring 10 goals. He helped Sporting to the Primeira Liga title in 2023-24 and 2024-25, winning a double in the latter season as they also claimed the Taca de Portugal.Hjulmand also helped Sporting reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League last season before they were narrowly beaten by Arsenal. His final campaign with the club ended trophy-less as Sporting finished second in the Primeira Liga behind champions Porto and stunningly lost the Taca de Portugal final to second-tier Torreense.Atletico kick off their 2026-27 LaLiga season on August 16 when they host newly promoted Malaga.
