The Dallas Mavericks are finalising a deal to hire Dusty May as their new head coach.May is set to make the jump from the college ranks to the NBA after guiding Michigan to a National Championship last season, according to a report from ESPN.He will serve as the successor to Jason Kidd, who mutually parted ways with the Mavericks in May following 26-56 season that saw Dallas finish 12th in the Western Conference. That decision followed the hiring of a new team president in the form of Majai Ujiri, who previously spent 12 years as the general manager of the Toronto Raptors, his roster moves helping Toronto to the NBA title in 2019.In May, Ujiri now has the man he hopes will turn the Mavericks around after successive losing seasons following their defeat to the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Finals.May will get the chance to work with Rookie of the Year Cooper Flagg, who justified his selection with the first overall pick last year with an impressive maiden season in the league in which he averaged 21 points per game and shot 46.8 percent from the field. The Mavericks also have three picks in this years draft, including the ninth overall selection, giving Ujiri plenty of resources with which to improve the roster for May.
