The physicality of the NBA Finals has become one of the biggest storylines of the series, and now Knicks guard Jose Alvarado has publicly called out Victor Wembanyama following a controversial moment in Game 3.Early in the first quarter of San Antonios 115-111 victory over New York, Wembanyama appeared to shove Jalen Brunson in the back of the head while the Knicks star was fighting for position near the top of the key.No foul was called on the play, and Brunson immediately turned to confront the Spurs center.Alvarado made it clear he wasnt happy with what he saw.I think thats not basketball, Alvarado said, via The New York Post. Thats something that they gotta look at. But he got away with one. Thatll be the last one.The comments immediately added another layer of intensity to a Finals series that has already featured plenty of hard fouls and physical confrontations. The NBA later acknowledged that the officials missed the call.Well, most certainly I think we can all agree that a foul was missed on that play, NBA Senior Vice President and Head of Development and Training for Referee Operations Monty McCutchen said on ESPNs NBA Today. A big part of our job is on-ball, off-ball exchanges between referees. We did a poor job of that here, where weve got two people on ball, and we dont see the screening action And if we break down in our fundamentals in even the smallest amounts, we have the opportunity to miss a clear foul as we missed here. While the Knicks voiced frustration, the Spurs defended their star.Related Article: Donald Trump MSG Visit Sparks Huge BacklashDeAaron Fox dismissed the idea that playoff basketball should be anything other than physical. If you get hit, you hit back.
