The storyline kicked off when Gable returned under the mask at Royal Rumble in Riyadh, eliminating the current El Grande Americanoplayed by Ludwig Kaiserbefore being tossed out himself moments later. On the following WWE RAW, Gable cost Kaiser a match against JeVon Evans by interfering just as the new Americano was about to cheat with a loaded mask.
