The road to AEW Grand Slam Australia just got a massive shake-up.
During Wednesdays episode of AEW Dynamite, it was announced that AEW World Champion MJF will face Brody King in a high-stakes eliminator match next week in Las Vegas. If King defeats the champion, he will earn a world title shot in Sydney next month at the second-ever AEW Grand Slam event in Australia.
The challenge stems from MJFs recent win over Bandido earlier this month. Brody King made it known he was gunning for the title, calling out MJF on last weeks Dynamite. However, MJF initially dismissed the ideauntil King returned Wednesday and revealed he already spoke with Tony Khan to make the match official.
This will be the first one-on-one encounter between MJF and King in AEW, though the two have crossed paths in multi-man matches, including the four-way bout on Dynamites 300th episode last July. Their only singles match took place in 2018 in MLW.
Also announced for next week: The Young Bucks return to in-ring action, though their opponents have yet to be revealed.
With a potential title shot in Australia hanging in the balance, next weeks Dynamite could reshape the Grand Slam main event. Will Brody King punch his ticket to Sydney, or will MJF slam the door shut on another challenger?
