Trey Miguels sudden exit from AEW has left fans confusedand now, we have a better idea of where the decision came from.
On the January 19 episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez and Dave Meltzer shed new light on the situation, confirming that Miguels release wasnt tied to Tony Khan or AEW talent. Instead, it came from a higher corporate level. Alvarez kicked off the segment, stating that Miguel signed with AEW but was released just days later. He added that Miguel announced hes stepping away from the business and asked fans to leave him alone.
Dave Meltzer followed up to echo that sentiment, Yeah. Just leave me alone. Im gonna need some time. Alvarez mentioned that while there are rumors swirling, the decision to let Miguel go didnt come from AEW creative, talent, or Tony Khan himself:
Meltzer added, Or Tony Khan, either. The pair confirmed that no one is talking officially, which points to the sensitive or possibly legal nature of the situation. This update follows Miguels emotional Twitter post where he reflected on past mistakes and emphasized his growth, further fueling speculation that old controversies may have factored into AEWs decision.
AEW never publicly announced his release, but with his request for privacy and reports that this came from higher up, the story behind Trey Miguels AEW release is far from over.
