Mirra Andreeva felt good enough to take to the court today and defeated Alexandra Eala 6-4 6-2 at the MGM Macau Tennis Masters.
In her Macau debut, the Russian tennis star was scheduled to play two matches but ended up playing only one match.
On Saturday, Andreeva was due to play a mixed doubles match with Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Just before the start of the match, it was reported that the 18-year-old was ill and could withdraw.
Exactly that happened as the 18-year-old ended up pulling out of the match. That created a very interesting scene as Eala still played with her original partner Juncheng Shang, but they took on two men - Davidovich Fokina and Wu Yibing. The Filipina and Shang competed well before losing 5-7 6-7 (1).
Andreeva managed to take to the court in Macau today
After Andreeva withdrew from the mixed doubles, there was a fear that she may also be forced to miss her singles match against Eala. Fortunately, that didn't happen as the 18-year-old still managed to get some action in Macau.
This was the first meeting between the 18-year-old Russian and the 20-year-old Filipina. However, it won't be listed in the official head-to-head since it was an exhibition match.
Now, Andreeva is set to fly to Australia and start her 2026 season at the Brisbane International.
On the other side, Eala will travel to New Zealand and kick off the new season in Auckland.
