Ortiz made his return to AEW during Worlds End Zero Hour, coming to the aid of Eddie Kingston after a post-match ambush by the Grizzled Young Veterans. The surprise appearance marked Ortizs first on-screen moment in AEW since early 2024.
The night started with Kingston defeating Zack Gibson in a singles bout, finishing things off with an enzuguri followed by a DDT. But immediately after the bell, James Drake hit the ring and the Grizzled Young Veterans began a two-on-one beatdown.
Thats when Ortiz stormed to the ring, clearing both Gibson and Drake to save his former tag partner. The crowd erupted as the longtime ally stood tall with Kingston, reigniting a partnership that had been on pause for nearly a year.
While Ortiz hasnt been featured on AEW programming in 2024, hes remained active behind the sceneswrestling dark matches throughout December and contributing as a backstage producer. His return adds new fire to Kingstons ongoing feud with the UK trio.
The attack at Worlds End follows a string of targeted assaults. Kingston previously defeated James Drake on ROH Boxing Day Brawl, only to be attacked afterward. Before that, Kingston beat Nathan Cruz at AEW Collision Holiday Bash, continuing his issues with the group. Ortizs return now changes the dynamicand signals that this storyline is far from over.
