The December 22 episode of WWE RAW went down at the Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This was a pretaped episode,and there were spoilers, but some fans couldnt watch the show when the time came.
Some WWE fans trying to watch the December 22 episode of WWE RAW on Netflix ran into a problem shortly after the show aired. The episode appeared on the platform, but it could not be played for some. It should be noted that others had no problem watching. That being said, it seems to be a geographical issue.
It is very likely that this is tied to how Netflix is handling RAW. While the show streams live on Netflix in certain regions, the replay is not always unlocked at the same time everywhere. In some locations, the episode tile shows up but stays unavailable.
A streaming giant like Netflix uses regional rollout windows. These are based on broadcast rights, time zones, and licensing rules connected to WWEs past television deals. Because of that, live access and replay access are handled separately. So, even if RAW already aired live, the on-demand version may not be active yet. When the replay window has not opened for a region, the episode remains unplayable until Netflix updates it on their end.
This is not caused by a user issue, so its nothing theyre doing wrong at all. It has nothing to do with the app either. The device and the users account are fine as well. It is controlled by Netflixs system, and we have yet to hear any response from them about what happened.
This is quite an issue, and it will be interesting to see if Netflix fixes things. At this point, some fans may have to wait until 8:00 PM their local time to see what happens this week on RAW.
