Wim Fissette has shared an update on Iga Swiatek's preseason as the Belgian coach reveals they train for three days in a row, and then a day off comes.
Fissette, who started working with Swiatek in October 2024, is having his second preseason with the six-time Grand Slam champion.
When Fissette and Swiatek initially started working, one of the Belgian coach's main priorities was to help the Pole get better on faster surfaces. While the 24-year-old struggled early on in 2025, she managed to win Wimbledon for the first time, and that sole achievement was enough for her season to be considered a major success.
Now, Fissette reveals that the emphasis this preseason has been on improving Swiatek's play on the opening two shots.
Swiatek's coach Fissette: We are really focused on the first two balls
Usually we train three days in a row, and then we take one day off to get the body recovered a little bit. So were actually really focused on the first two balls, so serve, return, plus the next ball. Its something especially if we look at the top eight right now, there are a lot of big servers, big hitters, big returners and yeah, just important that Iga becomes better in that area, becomes less predictable, and also more comfortable when the opponents try to attack her from the first ball," Fissette said on Break Point.
Soon, Swiatek's preseason will be completed and she will head to Australia, where she will kick off her 2026 season by representing Poland at the United Cup - the event is scheduled to take place between January 02-11. After the United Cup, the Polish tennis star will look to win her first Australian Open title and complete a Career Grand Slam.
It will be interesting to see if Fissette can now also guide Swiatek to her first Australian Open triumph.
