What may be Liverpools first post-Mohamed Salah win didnt introduce a shred of irony. It was just as we all expected, in the shadow of the monarch. Salah would have ordinarily taken the penalty that won the Reds the game; ordinarily, hed be far and away their best player this season.

But he wasnt, and he isnt. Thats Dominik Szoboszlai on both counts, who buried the spot kick late into the Lombardian twilight. Its safe to assume that if anyones picking up the dropped baton, its Szoboszlai at least for now.
