Marketa Vondrousova says her privacy was disrespected by the anti-doping officials, as the Czech tennis star claims she was tested outside of her testing window, and had the testers sitting in her living room while she was providing a urine sample.
Late in the year, Vondrousova battled an injury and she played only two tournaments during the Asian swing. And after retiring injured to Karolina Muchova in the Tokyo first round on October 20th, the 2023 Wimbledon champion called it a year.
Although Vondrousova's 2025 season has been over for quite some time, she still has to conduct anti-doping controls. Apparently, this week she had a very uncomfortable situation with the anti-doping officials - something that she described as "a serious intrusion into my privacy."
Vondrousova: Is it normal for doping officers to sit in our living rooms at night, waiting for us to pee?
Every day, we are required to be home for one specific hour for doping control. I respect that rule every single day. Tonight, however, a tester arrived at 8:15 pm and told me that my declared time doesnt matter and that I must be tested right now. When I pointed out that its outside my testing window and a serious intrusion into my privacy, I was told: This is the life of a professional athlete,'" 2023 Wimbledon champion Vondrousova wrote in a message posted on her Instagram Story.
Is it normal for doping officers to sit in our living rooms at night waiting for us to pee? This is not about avoiding testing its about respect. Respect for the rules that we follow, and for the personal life that were entitled to after a long day of training and competition. Rules should apply to everyone, even to those enforcing them.
Multiple players have voiced their displeasure with some of the routines that take place during doping testing. Some players claimed that the officials go as far as to wait outside the locker room or a toilet.
