Daniil Medvedev has confirmed that he will continue working with Thomas Johansson in 2026, and also reveals that he keeps in touch with his former long-time coach Gilles Cervara, who has already found a new gig on the ATP Tour.

During the summer, Medvedev entered one of the biggest slumps of his career and picked up back-to-back Grand Slam first-round exits at Wimbledon and the US Open. And coach Cervara - who collaborated with the former world No. 1 for eight years - paid the price and was ditched from the team.

Medvedev reacted quickly and brought in 2002 Australian Open champion Johansson. The first results came only a couple of weeks later, when the Russian ended his two-and-a-half-year title drought by winning Almaty. Also, the 29-year-old was a semifinalist in Beijing and the Shanghai Masters.

Medvedev was ranked at No. 18 after the US Open, but has since climbed back to No. 13 in the world.

"We initially agreed that this would be a trial period until the end of the season. We're all enjoying it, and we're continuing to work. So next season will be more interesting: both they and I have higher expectations. We'll see what comes of it." the 2021 US Open champion said. via sports.ru.

Medvedev reveals Cervara is already working with a different player

"I keep in touch with my former coach a little, but it will never be daily again. It just so happens that I already know who he'll be coaching, because we'll most likely be training with that player during the preseason. And we'll see each other on the Tour," the 29-year-old revealed.

Medvedev stated several times in the last couple of months that he and Cervara split on good terms.

Cervara guided Medvedev to becoming a Grand Slam champion and the world No. 1, so it's not surprising that he managed to quickly find a new job.
