John Cena will be ending his career in a couple of weeks and Drew McIntyre has now expressed disappointment over not getting to face Cena in his retirement tour.
While speaking to EPSN, Drew McIntyre was asked what John Cena has meant to the wrestling industry as he heads towards his retirement.
McIntyre explained that Cena became the face of WWE at a time when major stars like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Triple H, and Shawn Michaels were leaving or nearing the end of their careers. WWE needed someone to rise to the top, and Cena stepped into that role for multiple generations.
McIntyre said it feels surreal that Cena is now heading into his final matches. While hes disappointed he wont get to face Cena before he retires, hes grateful to have shared a roster with him, traveled the world alongside him, and learned from someone he considers a true legend and possibly even the greatest of all time.
Drew McIntyre has constantly called out John Cena over the past several months for a match but the stars simply didnt align for the two to get involved in a program.
John Cenas retirement is bringing a lot of emotional messages from people in wrestling, and Drew McIntyres words stand out because they show both respect and a little sadness. Fans never got to see a big McIntyre vs. Cena match, but McIntyres praise makes it clear just how important Cena has been to WWE and nothing will change that.
