Steve Johnson had a funny but also brutally honest comment about the Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner rivalry as the former four-time ATP champion admits he would find it entertaining if the two "hated each other" because that would naturally lead to some "great dramatic moments."
It is not a secret that in the men's game, the Alcaraz and Sinner matchup is a step ahead of every other matchup you can think of. They have separated themselves from the rest and all of their five meetings in 2025 came in the finals of major tournaments. In early June, they staged one of the most epic Grand Slam finals in tennis history when the Italian came back from two sets down - a break down in the fourth set and three consecutive match points - to edge out the Spaniard 4-6 6-7 (4) 6-4 7-6 (3) 7-6 (2).

But so far in their rivalry, nothing tense has happened between Alcaraz and Sinner - not on the court or when they speak about each other.
"I dont think they hate each other, even though I would quite like them to, because that would lead to great dramatic moments," former world No. 21 Johnson said on the Nothing Major Podcast.
What Sinner said about his relationship with Alcaraz?
After beating Alcaraz in the ATP Finals final, Sinner noted that he had great relationship with Italian players, but also with Alcaraz.

"It's a bit different with Carlos because of on-court reasons. We have a very good relationship or rivalry, call it whatever. I feel like we can talk about everything, and I think it's great. We are good friends off the court. We do respect each other in a very healthy way. Also, our teams get along very well. I think it's a good harmony," Sinner explained at the ATP Finals.
