Matt Cardona is done being the face of someone elses scam.
On November 25, Cardona took to Twitter to expose a pair of Instagram accounts impersonating him and promoting an obviously shady investment scheme. Both accounts@treinadorariel and @markorrobbins1use his image and promise a too-good-to-be-true 20% monthly return on investments ranging from $50,000 to $100,000.
Cardona posted screenshots of the fake profiles and asked for help shutting them down, tweeting, Anyone know how I can get rid of these scam IG accounts? (Without paying thousands of dollars)
The impersonators claimed, I give a 20% monthly investment. You give me between $50k and $100k, and I will give you a monthly return of 20%.
Both accounts featured Cardonas wrestling photos and artificially inflated follower countsone private account with 55K followers and another public one showing over 300K.
Its a textbook scam using a public figures likeness to lure unsuspecting fans into parting with their money. Cardona, who has dealt with impersonation issues before, is now putting public pressure on platforms like Instagram to step up and take these profiles down without charging creators a fortune in the process.
