Dominic Thiem is a tennis player who has done impressive things in the world of tennis, however, an injury got in the way of his success and, unfortunately, the Austrian had to end his career during the 2024 season. Although he was in the top ten of the ATP and was a problem even for those who were at the top, the Austrian was never the same player after the injury that occurred in 2021.

In a recent interview for the podcast Von Nix Kommt Nix, Dominic Thiem revealed what a mistake he made. Namely, he had been struggling with joint problems for years and had to go through a lot.

In his words, it seems that he expected such an injury. Throughout his career, he did not face major injuries, so he had hope that despite such problems, he would manage to be a dominant figure year after year, but unfortunately his body said no.

The injury didnt come out of the blue. I was almost 28 years old and had been putting my wrist through a lot of strain since I was 10 or 11, so for almost 17 years. So its been through a lot.

Therefore, its not such a huge surprise that the injury occurred. Moreover, this is very common injury for a tennis player. I think that more people have had the injury than have never had it."- he said, as quoted by Tennis Gazette.

It's important to listen to your body

Dominic Thiem admitted that a tennis player should not make this mistake, because it is important for a tennis player to have enough time for recovery and rest that will help him regenerate his body.

Thiem did not listen to his body, therefore he suffered the consequences which ultimately cost him greater success and a longer career.

The Austrian tennis player admits that it was his most difficult experience, but when he looks back on it, he recognizes that it had to happen that way, and now its in the past.

I pretty much made a lot of mistakes. I started again far too soon, not giving the body time to heal, to regenerate the wrist, which was of course due to a lack of experience with injuries.

As a competitive athlete, I think you know that you control your body incredibly precisely and immediately know when something serious just happened, and that was simply the case at that moment when the wrist injury occurred."

The Austrian tennis player admits that it was the most difficult experience, but, when he looks back on it, he is aware that it had to be that way. Either way, Dominic can be happy that such an injury did not occur earlier, and that he was really able to show how talented and great a tennis player he is.
