Tony Khan has been heavily criticized for having way too many championships for both AEW and ROH and now the AEW President has explained the reason for so many titles.

During the AEW Full Gear media call, Tony Khan was asked why AEW and ROH have so many championships. He explained that the number of titles matches the companys business model, how much content they produce each week, and where their money comes from, mainly their TV deals.

Khan said AEW now has more weekly programming and introduced more womens championships, but has not added any new mens singles titles. He pointed to the launch of Collision and the increase in pay-per-view events as reasons why more belts make sense.

Khan noted that having fewer titles might work for other promotions, but AEWs schedule is still expanding, so their current championship lineup fits what theyre doing. He then talked about the new pay-per-views and past successes, without giving a direct answer on whether the company has too many titles.

Tony Khans response shows that AEWs large number of championships isnt just about pleasing fans, its connected to TV money and how much programming the company produces. Whether people like it or not, AEWs growth means more shows, more stories, and according to Khan, more titles to go along with them.
