Several well-known ATP and WTA players are set to take part in a Russian exhibition tennis tournament in St. Petersburg later this month, including 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev.

In March 2022, the ATP and the WTA announced that Russia and Belarus were suspended from hosting official tournaments, as well as banned from competing in official team competitions such as the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup.

However, already in late 2022, Russia staged a star-studded exhibition in St. Petersburg. The exhibition was also held in 2023 and 2024.

Now, the Northern Palmyra Trophies - a two-day team event - is also set to return for the 2025 edition. On the men's side, it will feature Medvedev, Karen Khachanov, Alexander Bublik, Tallon Griekspoor and former top-10 player Mikhail Youzhny. There will also be some notable talent on the women's side as Diana Shnaider, Veronika Kudermetova, Anastasia Potapova and Yulia Putintseva.

Former Serbian tennis star Janko Tipsarevic and ex-French/Iranian player Mansour Bahrami will serve as team captains.

The Northern Palmyra Trophies in St. Petersburg will take place between November 29-30.

Meanwhile, if you can recall, Medvedev won the ATP 250 tournament in St. Petersburg in 2019 after beating Borna Coric 6-3 6-1 in the final. Afterward, the Russian tennis star couldn't hide his happiness and admitted that it was very special for him to win an ATP tournament at his home.

Im really happy, my style is more to hide my emotions, but it was hard not to scream with joy. I am really very happy, and thank you very much for your (the crowd) support, today was a full house. I wont list all the people to whom I would like to devote this victory to because even if my tennis is where I am now (in fourth place in the world), all this would have been impossible without many people," Medvedev said at the time.
