For a long time, fans believed AEW would launch a new show called AEW: Shockwave on FOX. However, that didnt happen in the end and now Tony Khan has revealed the real reason behind it getting scrapped.
While speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, Tony Khan explained that AEW Shockwave was simply an idea he filed while brainstorming potential show names. He didnt realize the name had already been used elsewhere.
After speaking with Billy Corgan, he learned that NWA had previously run a show called Shockwave. Khan said he probably wont move forward with the name and told Corgan that if NWA wants to use it again, they should feel free to do so. Corgan appreciated the gesture, and the conversation ended on good terms.
Tony Khans explanation finally ends all the speculation about AEW: Shockwave. Fans once thought it was a canceled FOX project, but it turns out it was only a placeholder name that AEW chose not to use out of respect for NWA, who had used it first. As AEW keeps growing, its clear that Khan is committed to keeping good relationships within the wrestling industry, even if it means giving up a cool show name.
Would you have wanted AEW to move forward with a show called Shockwave? What kind of show do you think AEW should launch next? Sound off in the comments.
