Former WWE star Maven is backing up Tyrus recent comments about CM Punks new World Heavyweight Championship runand he isnt holding back about why veterans struggle to step aside.
During his appearance on TMZs Inside the Ring, Maven agreed with Tyrus belief that Punk shouldnt be focused on holding titles at this stage in his career, but he offered a more personal and psychological explanation for why its easier said than done.
The discussion came after CM Punk defeated Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Title at Saturday Nights Main Event in Salt Lake City. The hosts asked Maven if he agreed with Tyrus, who previously said Punk should be getting the young guys ready instead of chasing championships. Maven didnt hesitate to side with himbut also pointed out the reality behind the curtain.
He compared the wrestling locker room to high school, filled with egos that make it hard for veterans to step back and play a supporting role.
Maven said that while Tyrus is right about Punks role as a mentor, its natural for someone like Punk to still want one more big run before walking away.
Tyrus made his remarks during an earlier interview with TMZ Sports ahead of Punks title match, where he said Punk should be focused on elevating the next generationciting Chris Jerichos work in AEW as a model.
CM Punks title win marks a huge moment in his comeback story, but Mavens comments reflect a deeper truth about what it means to be a veteran in an industry that feeds on competition and pride. Whether Punk continues to elevate others or chase more gold, his latest reign is bound to keep fans talking.
