Cameron Norrie believes he can upset Carlos Alcaraz again at the Paris Masters as the 31st-ranked Briton is warning the world No. 1 that he plans to "take it to him" and "get revenge" for the Wimbledon quarterfinal loss he suffered in the summer.
On Monday, the British tennis player made a winning start at the last Masters tournament of the year after routing Sebastian Baez 6-3 6-4 at Bercy.
Today, Norrie will return to the court to face No. 1 seed Alcaraz, who had a first-round bye. It will be the eighth meeting between the two. While the Spaniard has expectedly had more success in their head-to-head, the Briton has also had some solid success, beating the world No. 1 twice - at the 2022 Cincinnati Masters and 2023 Rio de Janeiro.
Its a match to enjoy. He (Alcaraz) is one of the two best players in the world, between him and Jannk. Im going to take it to him I always have battles with him, so Im looking forward to that," the 30-year-old told the ATP website.
Norrie seeks revenge versus Alcaraz
After Norrie upset Alcaraz on the clay courts of Rio de Janeiro in early 2023, it took them two and a half years to meet again. And when they did, the Spaniard completed a routine 6-2 6-3 6-3 win at this year's Wimbledon. The 30-year-old Briton hasn't forgotten that and hopes to make amends today.
Im going to leave that all behind and go on and play. For sure [time for some revenge], he chopped me pretty easily at Wimbledon so Im going to have to step up my level to have a chance with him," Norrie said.
Paris is one of the Masters tournaments where Alcaraz has had the least success since the world No. 1 has yet to make it past the quarterfinal stage at Bercy.
