Facundo Bagnis entered a voluntary provisional suspension after he failed a doping test but insists that he is fully innocent has vowed to clear his name.

Earlier this month, Bagnis - a former world No. 55 who is currently ranked at No. 401 in the world - was notified by the ITIA that the sample he provided during the US Open came back as positive for hydrochlorothiazide, which is a diuretic and masking agent. According to the Argentinian tennis player, he was left blindsided by the news because he "never took anything illegal."

While the process is ongoing, Bagnis elected to voluntarily stop playing. If the ITIA finds his guilty, the time served during this period will be counted.

In a statement posted on his Instagram, Bagnis said that he hired a group of lawyers and medical toxicologist to determine how the banned substance got into his body. The former world No. 55 suspects his positive doping test could be the result of cross-contamination.

Bagnis vows to clear his name: I have nothing to hide

I want to tell you that I am going through one of the worst moments of my professional career, I recently received a notification from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) on an anti-doping control that they performed on me during this year's US Open. The examination showed the presence of a substance prohibited by WADA, hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic), and for that reason a disciplinary process was initiated. The news took me completely by surprise," Bagnis wrote.

From the first moment I am collaborating with the ITIA in a total and transparent way, to clarify everything as soon as possible. In addition, I decided to voluntarily accept the provisional suspension, in order to devote my full attention to this process and prove that I have nothing to hide."

The Argentinian tennis player also added in his message that he has "full confidence in my innocence."

Prior to the suspension, Bagnis competed mostly on the Challenger Tour this year and posted a 16-13 record in 2025.
