During his long career, Nick Faldo has shown that he is a top-quality golfer and has remained inscribed in the history of this sport. Although he retired from professional golf a few years ago, he is still actively involved as a sports commentator and pundit.
Most older golf fans draw a parallel between golf then and now.
Nick Faldo just shared his thoughts on the Sliced podcast, giving his perspective on golf saying that the records on the course were much better before than they are now.
I honestly think there should be an asterisk on some of those course records back in the day, Faldo said. One good example was Olazabal shot 61 at Firestone.
We were hitting 2 and 3-irons into the par-4s nearly all the time. One of the famous ones was the 9th hole. We used to drive to the top of the hill.

We had to hit a 3-iron to that green, which was the size of a dinner plate. It was literally a perfectly round green. We were hitting twos- and three-irons to that.
Then, I was on CBS, and Keegan Bradley whooped his driver down there 350 yards, and he had a gap wedge. I said, Thats not fair. Its not the same golf course, is it?
If youve shot a 62 with a 2-iron in your hand and then suddenly, youve shot 62 with wedges all the way, come on. Its not the same game.- he said, as quoted by The Golfing Gazette.
Justin Thomas reacts
Popular golf figure Justin Thomas took to Instagram to share a video clip of Nick Faldo, agreeing with some of his opinions.
However, Thomas ultimately believes that there is no need to compare generations and that each time carries something special. Such comparisons, however, will always exist on the golf scene and of course opinions will be divided.

While I agree, greens are much faster and firmer now, Thomas said.
Dont compare generations. Appreciate greatness regardless of when and applaud it.
