Eva Lys is sadly once again targeted by angry bettors as her Instagram DM was full of vile and hateful messages following her exit from the WTA 500 tournament in Tokyo.
Over the weekend, Lys - ranked at No. 50 in the world - won two qualifying matches to make her main draw debut in Tokyo. Then, the German tennis player also clinched a notable first-round win over former world No. 23 Katie Boulter. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, she didn't have a great day at the office on Wednesday as she was bounced 1-6 1-6 by reigning Montreal champion Victoria Mboko.
As if having a rough day on the court wasn't enough, Lys was also met with disgusting messages and all kinds of insults when she picked up her phone.
"Tennis is fun until it's not," the German captioned her Instagram Story.
Lys was also a victim of social media abuse earlier this month
In late September and early October, Lys enjoyed her career-best WTA 1000 run when she upset Elena Rybakina en route to making her first quarterfinal in the 1000-category in Beijing. In the Beijing quarterfinal, the rising German couldn't pull off another upset win as Coco Gauff ended her run by handing her a 6-3 6-4 defeat. Although the world No. 50 competed pretty well against one of the best players in the game, she was still insulted by angry bettors after her Beijing exit.
Those two are not the sole instances of Lys being abused on social media as the 23-year-old also took a screenshot of her Instagram a few times earlier this year as well.
