Alejandro Davidovich Fokina doesn't seem to be too happy about Spanish team captain David Ferrer's decision to overlook him when forming a team for the upcoming Davis Cup Final 8.
On Monday, Ferrer announced the four names that he picked to represent Spain in Bologna - Carlos Alcaraz, Jaume Munar, Pedro Martinez and Marcel Granollers.
One of the things that instantly stood out - and surprised some within the Spanish tennis community - was the absence of Davidovich Fokina, who has made three ATP finals this year, as well as semifinals on two different occasions. Also, the Spaniard is currently enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 18 in the world.

Munar, who will likely be the second singles player for Spain besides Alcaraz, is ranked at No. 42 in the world and hasn't played any finals this year.

"Being ranked 18th in the world, I think I deserved to be among the four best players in my country, with all due respect to my teammates, who, as I said, are also great players. Now, my goal is to focus on the rest of the season and prepare myself to reach the highest level next year," the 26-year-old told MARCA.
In mid-September, Spain defeated Denmark and Switzerland to book a Davis Cup Final 8 ticket. Davidovich Fokina didn't play during the tie. When asked if that influenced Ferrer's decision not to name him for the upcoming event, the world No. 18 said that he explained to the captain why he couldn't play in the qualifiers and made himself available for the Final 8 event.

"I missed those qualifiers due to physical problems. I've been competing tirelessly this year, and my withdrawals in Toronto and Cincinnati were a warning about my condition. The captain was aware of everything and was in communication with me and my team," Davidovich Fokina said.
The Davis Cup Final 8 takes place between November 18-23. On November 20th, Spain will meet the Czech Republic in their quarterfinal tie.
