The former world number 1 needed to change something after his untimely elimination at the US Open within another season below expectations, which is why he decided to break his professional relationship with Gilles Cervara to start a new chapter in his career.
The Russian champion who had not lifted a trophy since the 2023 edition of the Rome Masters 1000 (over two years ago) won the Almaty ATP 250 thanks to a finally brilliant run. In this way, the ace from Moscow won the 21st title of his career with the particularity of never having managed to win a tournament more than once. He will try to break this little curse in Vienna or Paris, two events in which he has already been champion in the past.
Medvedev is back
The winner of the 2021 US Open will have a very busy schedule between now and the end of 2025, having understood that he needs to play as many matches as possible in view of next season which will also be decisive for his future at the highest level.
"The truth is that I signed up for all these tournaments because there is almost no chance that I can qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, which is why Almaty, Vienna and Paris will be my last three tournaments this year," explained Daniil, who is finally regaining his certainties after going through the darkest period of his career.
"I felt comfortable in Kazakhstan and I want to thank the organizers, who have been very kind to me since the moment I arrived here from Shanghai. I think I will come back here many times in the future," concluded the former world No.1.
Medvedev will try to continue his positive streak in Vienna, another tournament where he has always had a favorable tradition.
