Thanasi Kokkinakis reveals he and Nick Kyrgios are planning to team up for next year's Australian Open, and admits he is just hoping their health won't pose a problem once again.
When Kokkinakis and Kyrgios formed a team for the 2022 Australian Open, they just wanted to have some fun at their home Grand Slam tournament. They not only had great fun that year at Melbourne Park, but the Special K's also became Slam champions together.
In 2023, they were unable to defend their title due to Kyrgios' knee surgery, and they also didn't return as a duo in 2024 because of Nick's wrist surgery. At the start of the 2025 season, they finally shared the same side of the court at Melbourne Park again. Unfortunately, it didn't go well since they were forced to retire from their first-round match due to Kokkinakis' injury.

Kokkinakis: Me and Kyrgios definitely have to run it back as a team at the Australian Open
"Unfortunately, when we played last year, we were nowhere near 100 percent. So, we definitely have to run it back. We haven't played it properly since we won it in 2022," Kokkinakis told Nine's Wide World of Sports.
In the same interview, the 29-year-old - who had pectoral reattachment surgery shortly after this year's Australian Open - expressed hope that he and Kyrgios would be healthy at the start of the 2026 season.
Meanwhile, just a couple of days ago, the 2022 Wimbledon singles finalist revealed on a podcast appearance that he was intending to play at Melbourne Park at least one more time before retiring.
Ill probably play the Aussie Open in some way. Im not too sure what events Ill play, but I definitely will say goodbye at the Aussie Open at least one more time," Kyrgios said on UNSCRIPTED by Josh Mansour.
