Despite losing the first position in the ATP rankings after more than a year of reign, Jannik Sinner has no reason to be dissatisfied with his season. He had to miss all the tournaments that were played between February and May due to the controversial three-month ban resulting from his deal with WADA, but that did not prevent him from lifting two Grand Slam trophies (in Melbourne and London) and the Beijing ATP 500 for the second time in his career.

In theory, the Italian ace still has a chance to return to world No.1 by the end of this year, but his chances have drastically diminished due to his retirement during the Shanghai Masters 1000 due to cramps.

Sinner could change schedule

The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria was unable to defend his title in the penultimate Masters 1000 of the season and will need a miracle to overtake Carlos Alcaraz again before 2025 ends. The four-time Grand Slam champion who is in Saudi Arabia right now to participate in the 'Six Kings Slam (which he won last year) is expected to play in the Vienna ATP 500, the Paris Masters 1000, the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna.

He himself confirmed this schedule during his first press conference in Riyadh, but according to some insiders he may decide to change his plans to preserve his body. In a podcast on 'Eurosport', Italian journalist Simone Eterno said that a very reliable source revealed to him that Jannik is set to miss both the Paris Masters 1000 (which will change venue starting from this edition) and the Davis Cup Finals in Bologna.

Sinner has been decisive in the last two editions of the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga, having dragged Italy into both 2023 and 2024. In particular, fans remember his memorable success over Serbian legend Novak Djokovic two years ago by canceling match points on his serve. The world number 2 had also played an important role in 2024 together with Matteo Berrettini.
