It was legitimate to expect much more from Alexander Zverev this season, especially after the improvements made by the latter in the latter part of last year that had deluded everyone. The former world number 2 had started 2025 in the best possible way by reaching the Australian Open final thanks to a very brilliant run and thought he could beat defending champion Jannik Sinner on the iconic Rod Laver Arena, instead he suffered a real lesson from the Italian ace who defeated him in three sets not giving him even a break point in the entire match.
From then on, Sascha's certainties crumbled and his performances were very disappointing in the rest of the year. The current world number 3 has lifted only one trophy in 2025 more precisely the Munich ATP 250 and is a long way from Jannik Sinner and Carlitos Alcaraz in the ATP rankings.
As if that were not enough, the champion from Hamburg has also started to feel discomfort in his back in the last month and had to undergo some infiltrations before the Laver Cup in San Francisco. He did not play his best tennis even in Beijing and Shanghai, disappointing expectations especially in the penultimate Masters 1000 of the season which seemed particularly suitable for his game.

Sascha disappoints again
Due to the frustration accumulated in the recent period, Zverev accused the tournament organizers of having made the surfaces all the same with the aim of favoring the dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner. The feeling is that he continues to look for justifications without working on his issues, with the Paris Masters 1000 and the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin as the last major events to 'save' his 2025 season.
On the latest episode of his podcast, German legend Boris Becker harshly criticized his compatriot: "I thought his performances would be better after Wimbledon, but instead he continued to struggle more than expected. I haven't seen any improvement in his game and his team has continued to be the same for years."
