Serena Williams' childhood coach Rick Macci says Mirra Andreeva is destined for greatness and adds the Russian's temper "will become her best friend."

For Andreeva, it has been quite a 2025 season. After winning two WTA 1000 titles and breaking into the top-10 just before celebrating her 18th birthday, the world No. 5 hasn't won any titles and has failed to fulfill her Grand Slams for this year.

Over the last two months, Andreeva has been going through her worst period of the year. Firstly, the Russian made only the third round in Montreal and the US Open. Then, the two-time WTA 1000 champion saw her Beijing run end in the round-of-16, and also picked up a shock opening-match loss to Laura Siegemund at the ongoing Wuhan Open.

"Andreeva will be A OK because she knows how to win and play. She is only 18 and one of the best on the planet and as she matures her mind will turn to unbreakable granite. For her age this is part of the deal 100% the Russian Rabbit is for real," Williams' former childhood coach wrote on X.

Macci: Andreeva is wired for greatness

During the Siegemund loss, the 18-year-old lost her cool on a couple of occasions and even cried at one point.

"Andreeva is SO competitive is why she blows a fuse and she is only 18 but just hates to lose. She is wired for greatness and that temper will become her best friend and the Russian Rabbit will NO DOUBT be number one in the end," Macci stated.

Andreeva's form may not have been the best lately, but it doesn't change the fact that she accomplished some pretty impressive things at 18.
