Jannik Sinner's former physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, has finally decided to open up to the media after the Italian tennis player fired him last year. The 24-year-old tested positive for Clostebol twice at the 2024 Indian Wells Open after after receiving massages from Naldi.
Sinner used a spray to treat a cut on his finger, given to him by his physiotherapist Umberto Ferrara, which contained traces of the banned substance. After Sinner was suspended, he decided to end his professional relationship with both of them, and served a three-month suspension.
However, he later rehired Ferrara, while Naldi did not return to the team, which has sparked mixed reactions and questions from the public.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Naldi stressed that the whole affair hurt him, but that he had always tried to act professionally.
Naldi stressed that he did not want to speak openly about the case, probably due to a dose of fear of how his words would be interpreted. However, now he decided to spoke openly.
Naldi also pointed out that he was frustrated by the reactions on social media and some misleading headlines.
There are no bad feelings between them
While some expected the famous physiotherapist, who appeared frequently on magazine covers, to react harshly and send harsh words to Sinner, he said that they still have a positive relationship, believing that it was all just an unfortunate series of coincidences.
Despite the breakup, Naldi admits that his relationship with Sinner remains positive and that there are no hard feelings.
