Drew McIntyre is officially headed from the squared circle to the silver screenagain.
According to Deadline, WWE Superstar has joined the cast of the upcoming Highlander reboot, starring alongside Henry Cavill in the new film from Amazon MGM Studios United Artists.
McIntyre will play Angus MacLeod, the brother of Cavills Connor MacLeod. The film is being directed by Chad Stahelski, best known for his work on the John Wick franchise. It marks a massive next step in McIntyres crossover into Hollywood, and another reunion with Stahelskis 87Eleven stunt team.
The Highlander reboot also includes a stacked cast: Russell Crowe, Karen Gillan, Marisa Abela, Djimon Hounsou, Max Zhang, and fellow former pro wrestler Dave Bautistawho previously shared screen time with McIntyre in The Killers Game.
The new take is based on the original 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, an immortal warrior fighting a centuries-long battle across time. That film went on to spawn multiple sequels and a popular 1992 TV series starring Adrian Paul.
The script for the reboot is penned by Michael Finch, and the project is being produced by Scott Stuber, Nick Nesbitt, Neal H. Moritz, Josh Davis, Louise Rosner, and 87Eleven Entertainment. Lionsgate initially developed the project, and now UA holds the full rights to the original film with future plans that may include a new series.
Production was originally set to begin soon but has been delayed after Cavill suffered an injury during training. Cameras are now expected to roll in early 2026.
McIntyre, a two-time WWE Champion and 2020 Royal Rumble winner, is represented by Paradigm and Ziffren Brittenham. The Highlander role is another major leap in his acting career following his debut in The Killers Game, where he also starred opposite Bautista.
