Jannik Sinner was forced to leave the top position in the ATP rankings after more than a year, but he doesn't seem particularly sad about it. The Italian ace was overtaken by his huge rival Carlos Alcaraz after the 2025 US Open, with the 22-year-old Spaniard beating him in the final in New York and starting a new reign as No.1.
The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria has not been able to play as many tournaments as he would have liked this season, having suffered a three-month ban from February to May due to his deal with WADA to end the famous 'Clostebol case'. Despite that period of suspension, Jannik's 2025 was still exceptional, considering that he lifted the trophy at the Australian Open earlier in the year and at the Wimbledon Championships during the summer.

Sinner praises Alcaraz
The four-time Grand Slam champion is very confident for the last part of this season, in which he will have to defend a lot of points, but he will have the advantage of playing on a surface that enhances his skills. He made an excellent debut at the Beijing ATP 500 today, leaving only four games to Croatian veteran Marin Cilic to unleash a performance at the limits of performance. His next opponent will be French star Terence Atmane on Saturday.
During his press conference, the world number 2 confided that Alcaraz deserved to overtake him in the ATP rankings: "Carlos has been really exceptional in recent months: he has played more tournaments than me and has always expressed a very high level, winning several titles. Having achieved those extraordinary results, he deserved to become world number 1.

There are still several important tournaments between now and the end of the season and I will give my best. The only thing I can say is that I am very satisfied with my season and I don't pay too much attention to the ATP ranking."
The former world No. 1 will have to defend the titles won in Shanghai and at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, but he has also added the Vienna ATP 500 to his schedule.
