After the lossagainst his huge rival Carlos Alcaraz in the US Open final, Jannik Sinner's season starts again from the Beijing ATP 500. The world number 2 has always had an excellent feeling with this tournament, in which he prevailed in 2023 at the end of a truly impressive run (he defeated Carlitos Alcaraz in the semifinals and Daniil Medvedev in the final, starting the extraordinary rise that led him to the first position in the ATP rankings.
The Italian ace reached the final in this tournament also in the last edition, but had to surrender to Alcaraz at the end of an epic battle that is remembered as one of the best matches of the entire 2024 season. As everyone knows, the 22-year-old from Murcia will not be there in this edition having preferred to play the Tokyo ATP 500 at this stage of the year.
The 24-year-old from Sesto Pusteria does not have much chance of returning to world number 1 before the end of 2025, as he has to defend a lot of points between now and the end of the season unlike his huge Spanish rival. The four-time Grand Slam champion has already revealed that his main goal is the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, an event in which he dominated last year by lifting the trophy in front of his home fans.

Sinner will play in Beijing
Meanwhile, the Beijing ATP 500 draw was drawn today. The former world No. 1 who arrived in the Chinese capital several days early to practice at high intensity will make his debut in this tournament against Croatian veteran Marin Cilic, whom he faced only once on the professional tour in the Davis Cup in 2021.
If he were to beat the winner of the 2014 US Open, Jannik would face local idol Zhang or a qualifier in the next round. His opponent in the quarterfinals is expected to be Russian ace Karen Khachanov, before a possible semifinal against Jakub Mensik or Alex de Minaur (both of these players participated in the Laver Cup in San Francisco last weekend).
