Liv Morgans alleged stalker Canadian wrestling fan Shawn Chan tried to get released from jail ahead of his criminal trial, claiming there was no reason to keep him locked up. Prosecutors have now pushed back, doubling their efforts to ensure he stays behind bars until the case goes to court.
According to PWInsider, prosecutors have doubled down on their efforts to keep Shawn Chan in jail ahead of his November trial for interstate domestic violence against Liv Morgan. They argue he is a serious flight risk and a danger to the community.
Security footage shows Chan sneaking onto Morgans property, walking around it twice, trying to open both the front and side doors, checking under the doormat for a key, and even picking up an air rifle. He stayed outside for nearly two hours. Prosecutors say this, along with his mental health issues, lack of U.S. ties, no job and Canadian citizenship, means he could easily flee the country.
They point out Chan faces 1016 months in prison if convicted and could avoid prison if he escapes to Canada, where he has family and work. His visa, which does not allow him to work, expires in December, leaving him with no legal status and making deportation likely.
Prosecutors also note that Chan first claimed he had no mental health problems but was later diagnosed with a delusional disorder, adding to concerns about his behavior.
The filing explains how the incident has affected Liv Morgan. She now needs a police escort to her home, no longer accepts fan mail, and remains deeply worried that Chan found where she lives and showed up uninvited.
They also reject the defenses plan to house Chan at a Salvation Army program, saying it is voluntary and offers no real consequences if he leaves. Prosecutors warn that no release conditions can guarantee he will show up in court or keep the community safe.
On May 26, Chan flew from Scarborough, Ontario, to Orlando, Florida. When questioned by customs officers, he said he would be staying at the WWE Performance Center, which doesnt have any living facilities.
Four days later, according to court documents, he traveled several hours to Liv Morgans house. He circledthe property a few times, went into her backyard, and tried to get in through the front door but failed. He also picked up an air pellet that was on her porch, waited outside for hours, then left a note before leaving.
WWE security saw footage from Morgans home, recognized Chan, and contacted the FBI. He was arrested on June 3. On June 25, he was officially charged andnow faces up to five years in prison.
With Shawn Chan staying in custody and his trial set for November this year, the next few months will be very important for both the court case and Liv Morgans peace of mind. It remains to be seen how things will turn out in the end.
