TNA Wrestling and WWEs partnership is stronger than ever and its clear theres a lot more left in the tank when it comes to storylines. As it turns out, WWE has laid the groundwork for an inter-promotional feud between NXT and TNA.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, NXT has started laying the groundwork for a major promotion vs. promotion feud with TNA, which is expected to start on the September 23 episode. The main match will be Trick Williams vs. Oba Femi with both the NXT and TNA titles on the line. The winner will defend the titles again at No Mercy on September 27 against Ricky Saints, giving fans quick follow-up action and high stakes.
During the show, many TNA wrestlers tweeted that NXT is unfairly taking over their championship and not giving TNA talent a chance. Big names like Mike Santana and Moose said they will not let it happen. This points to TNA wrestlers showing up on NXT next week to start the feud.
Meltzer believes the story is likely setting up Mike Santana as the one to save TNA, instead of Joe Hendry, who is expected to leave TNA soon. The episode ended with William Regal warning Ava that something big is coming, which adds to the expectation of a TNA invasion.
Meltzer also warns that while these cross-promotion feuds usually create big excitement at first, they can cause problems later, especially for the company that ends up losing the feud.
The NXT vs. TNA feud is shaping up to be one of the most exciting angles in wrestling today. With titles on the line, major stars involved, and a possible invasion coming, fans can expect a really engaged feud. The September 23 episode of NXT could be the start of one of the biggest cross-brand battles in years, so well have to see how it will turn out in the end.
