Boris Becker claims he was given some pretty bad razors while in jail, and after he cut himself, he was approached by the prison's doctor and asked whether he had been self-harming.
in late April of 2022, Becker was convicted by a British court for hiding assets after declaring bankruptcy a few years earlier. The former six-time Grand Slam champion started serving his sentence at Wandsworth Prison. Later, the German tennis legend was transported to Huntercombe Prison.
Trying to shave with the stubby little razor they had given me, I ended up with nicks on my cheeks and stabby slashes under my chin and down my neck. Soon after, I was summoned to a medical with the doctor who asked if I was self-harming. Why would I? My mind was only focused on doing things to protect myself," Becker wrote in his upcoming autobiography.

Becker admits he will 'never fully recover' from being in prison
After spending some time in two separate British prisons, Becker was deported from Great Britain just before 2022 Christmas. And as soon as he arrived in his native country of Germany, he was released. Nearly three years later, the former world No. 1 still feels the trauma of being surrounded by criminals in a jail cell.
I will never fully recover from that moment. Prisons are run by prisoners, not guards. I lost seven kilos in four weeks. Stress, no food, no sweets, no alcohol It was very cold in the cell, a real nightmare. I slept in a tracksuit, two jackets, two pairs of socks, with a towel wrapped around my head," Becker said.
Becker's latest comments about his prison sentence shouldn't come as a surprise, considering that he described that period as the toughest and worst of his life in some of his previous interviews. Since returning to normal life, the 57-year-old has been back to working in the tennis broadcast and he also had a short stint with Holger Rune.
