As the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black approaches, Luke Donald issued a cautious warning regarding Donald Trump's expected presence on the first day of competition.
The European team captain hopes lessons have been learned from the chaotic scenes caused by the American president's appearance at the U.S. Open tennis tournament.
There have been delays in tennis, but I hope they [the PGA of America] have learned from that experience.

"We don't know all the details yet; I think the tours are talking to the PGA of America to get more information. I imagine he'll want to be on the first tee. We understand he's coming, and both teams will be ready for that," he explained before the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where he won twice. "There have been delays in tennis, but I hope they've learned from that experience." It's a long process to organize a presidential visit, with a high level of security, and it's up to the PGA of America to ensure everything goes smoothly."

Luke Donald reiterated that the atmosphere is set to be heated, whether Donald Trump is present or not, and that a collaborative effort is underway with the players, their entourages, and the authorities to ensure the event takes place smoothly.
"The PGA has assured me that a significant police presence will be deployed," he added. "They have also implemented their own protocols. We've had numerous discussions over the past six months, and they've assured me that everything will go smoothly."
The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they are played outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respecting the rules is a fundamental element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on self-control and the free conscience of the players, often sees distorted results, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the failure of many players to comply with the rules of the game. In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential component of this sport.
