Aryna Sabalenka is firing back at Nick Kyrgios ahead of their Battle of the Sexes matchup as the top-ranked WTA player warns the Australian she will go out there determined to "beat his a--."
After rumors started to swirl around that a match between Sabalenka and Kyrgios was in the making, the Australian tennis player pretty confirmed it during a recent podcast appearance with Alexander Bublik. During their conversation, the former 13th-ranked ATP player said that the Belarusian would enter the match believing she could win, but that the reality would be much different and that he would win the match without being at his 100 percent.
According to reports, Sabalenka and Kyrgios - who are represented by the same agent, Stuart Duguid - will likely play the match during the offseason. And Hong Kong is expected to be the location.
On Thursday, Sabalenka pulled off a big comeback to beat Jessica Pegula 4-6 6-3 6-4 in the US Open semifinal. In her post-match presser, a reporter asked the three-time Grand Slam champion to address the reported Battle of the Sexes clash involving her.
Sabalenka: I'll definitely try my best to kick Kyrgios' a--
"Well I think it's a cool idea, you know. It's going to be spectacular to watch, it's going to be fun, especially against someone like Nick. Like he said in another interview, that I genuinely think I'm going to win," the top-ranked WTA player said.
'And I'll definitely go out there and try my best to kick his a--. It's going to be a good thing if I beat him. For now we are not sure about the place but if we're going to bring it, we're going to bring it to somewhere where there's going to be a lot of people watching and we're going to put a lot of pressure on Nick."
In 1973, WTA icon and founder Billie Jean King beat Bobby Riggs in the Battle of the Sexes.
