Iga Swiatek spoke out against match scheduling in tennis following her US Open exit as the Polish tennis star said it was "nonsense" to schedule her clash with Amanda Anisimova for 1 PM local time.
At 11:30 AM local time, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur started their match on Arthur Ashe Stadium. Swiatek and Anisimova's match was scheduled for 1 PM. However, since Auger-Aliassime and de Minaur needed more than four hours to conclude their match, the Pole and the American saw their clash delayed for a few hours.
And when Swiatek finally took to the court three hours later than initially scheduled, she struggled and ended up suffering a surprise 4-6 3-6 quarterfinal loss to Anisimova. When addressing the lengthy delay, the six-time Grand Slam winner noted that the moment her match was scheduled for 1 PM, she knew she would have to be ready to play at that slot. But since a men's match was the first on the court, she highly expected to have the start of her match delayed.
Swiatek rips the US Open match scheduling: Doesn't make sense
You have to be ready for that at a Grand Slam. Its not convenient, especially when the not befores, they dont make sense. You have to be ready to play at 1 anyway, because you have not before 1. But then you wait, because obviously how many times is a mens match going to finish in like, one and a half hours or something, right? Thats tennis. You have to adjust to that," the 24-year-old said.
Swiatek basically said that the Auger-Aliassime and de Minaur match had to be a completely one-sided battle and a demolition to finish in an hour and a half.
However, this is not the first time that a WTA player has complained about a men's match delaying the start of their match. And while those complaints are valid, nothing has changed in that regard.
