For many, the well-known face of the golf scene, Mike Lorenzo-Vera, has decided to withdraw from the DP World Tour after an unsuccessful performance at the Omega European Masters a few days ago. The 40-year-old golfer did not make the cut in this tournament, and it seems that frustrations are still at their peak when it comes to this golfer.
The Frenchman played rounds of 73 and 75 shots, which was still not enough to be in the middle of the table.
However, the end of this tournament was marked by emotional moments between him and his children, and tears could be seen in the eyes of the famous golfer.
In an emotional speech after the tournament, he pointed out that it is great to have the support of his family and that, ultimately, the most important thing for him is that they were by his side and gave him support from the first day.
"It was amazing to have all my family here but I played like **** and just didn't manage to go through the emotions,"- he said.
"I hit the ball everywhere but least was with my friends and family.
I was feeling actually okay until walking down the last fairway but it felt great to have my family here."
Why did he decide on retirement?
The French golfer has not excelled on the DP World Tour, having never won the event. However, he has had plenty of great finishes to be happy with when he draws a line under the fence and looks back.
Lorenzo-Vera took a long break last season to protect his mental health. In April, he announced his retirement, and his final wish was to play in Crans-sur-Sierre, where his father died while he was playing the first round of the 2015 Omega European Masters.
The 40-year-old golfer admitted that this week is special for him given everything that has happened in his career, but a moment from 2015 marked his life, not just his career.
"It's a very special week for me as I lost my Dad 10 years ago when I was here on the 1st fairway during the first round, so having my mother here is going to feel very special and having the kids here is going to be absolutely beautiful."- he said.
