Karolina Muchova made a shocking revelation following her US Open second-round win as the Czech tennis star claimed that her ex-boyfriend came to the stands, which distracted her and prompted her to ask the man in question to leave the court.
After beating Venus Williams on the Arthur Ashe Stadium in her opening match at Flushing Meadows, the No. 11 seed returned to action on Thursday when she took on Sorana Cirstea. Early in the match, the Czech appeared to be distracted by something but still won the opener. While Cirstea managed to force a decider, the 2023 US Open semifinalist bounced back in the third set and completed a 7-6 (0) 6-7 (3) 6-4 win in nearly three hours of play.
When speaking with the Czech media, Muchova was asked if there was a reason why she appeared distracted in the first set.
"Yeah, there was something. But, I'm happy how I managed to deal with it, because it was a bit difficult for me to focus, but I got right back in the rhythm, and I fought for every rally," the 2023 French Open finalist responded.
Muchova: My ex-boyfriend was there... He likes to appear at places where he shouldn't be
When pressed to reveal what exactly distracted her, the former world No. 8 made a shocking revelation.
"It's not tennis-related, so I don't like to talk about it. But, my ex-boyfriend sat right next to my box. He likes to appear at places where he shouldn't be, and where I am. So that scared me a little bit. I asked him whether he could leave. At first, he didn't, but then he left. It was difficult for me to focus on tennis at that moment," the 29-year-old admitted.
While it was disturbing, the positive thing was that Muchova still managed to get the job done. In the US Open third round, she plays against fellow compatriot Linda Noskova.
