The Chicago Bulls have officially set the date to honor hometown legend Derrick Rose.
The team announced Thursday that his No. 1 jersey will be retired on January 24, 2026, following a game against the Boston Celtics at the United Center.
On that night, Roses number will be lifted alongside the banners of franchise icons Michael Jordan, Scottie Pippen, Bob Love, and Jerry Sloan. It marks the fifth jersey retirement in team history.
For Rose, the moment is deeply personal. In response to the announcement, the 2011 MVP shared a heartfelt message with fans on Instagram:
The game has given me more than I ever could have imagined, he wrote. From Englewood to the rafters, my story has always been about making the city proud. This isnt for me, this is for Chicago. Peace and Love, Pooh.
The Bulls confirmed that Rose will be celebrated all season long. In a statement released through NBA.com, the team said:
No player will ever wear #1 again for the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls will celebrate the career and impact of Derrick Rose on the Bulls and City of Chicago by retiring his jersey #1 on January 24, 2026. Derrick will be celebrated throughout the season, including on four additional game dates where a collectible figurine will be given away at the gates while supplies last.
Fans will have the chance to collect limited-edition figurines tied to key milestones in Roses career, such as his 2009 Rookie of the Year award and his historic 2011 MVP season. Giveaway nights are set for November 4, December 17, February 22, and March 19.
The Bulls honored Rose earlier this year with D-Rose Night, which featured tributes from teammates like Joakim Noah, Luol Deng, and Carlos Boozer.
The jersey retirement night looks to be the most expensive Bulls home game on record.
