As was expected, the former quarter-finalist Nick Kyrgios will not compete at the US Open. The Aussie made the entry list with a protected ranking but withdrew a couple of days before the start of the final Major event of the season.
Nick has not played since the Miami Open in March, winning his only match of the season against Mackenzie McDonald before losing to Karen Khachanov. It remains his most recent match, and no one knows will we ever see him compete again.
Kyrgios is the sixth player who will miss the US Open, joining Arthur Fils, Grigor Dimitrov, Matteo Berrettini, Hubert Hurkacz and Kei Nishikori on that list.
The Canberra native enjoyed his best run in New York three years ago, beating four rivals and entering the last eight. He lost a cracking duel against Karen Khachanov and missed the next three editions of the US Open.
The former Wimbledon finalist played one match between October 2022 and the beginning of 2025 after numerous injuries and setbacks. He underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in January 2023.

Kyrgios played only one match that season in Stuttgart and experienced a full rapture of the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. The Aussie had to start from the beginning, training with junior balls to recover sense.
Despite everything, Nick did not give up. He made a comeback at the beginning of this season in Brisbane, losing a tight clash to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard.
The home hero fell to Jacob Fearnley at the Australian Open, admitting it could be his final appearance in Melbourne. Kyrgios experienced another setback in Indian Wells and retired against Botic van de Zandschulp.
Nick moved to Miami and claimed his first victory of the season and the first since October 2022! He challenged Khachanov in the second match before suffering a 7-6, 6-0 defeat, having nothing left in the tank in the second set.
