AEW is just days away from Forbidden Door, but several top stars are entering the pay-per-view with major health concerns.
Updates on Will Ospreay, Nick Wayne, and Konosuke Takeshita surfaced after Wednesdays Dynamite and were expanded on during Wrestling Observer Radio. Will Ospreay addressed his health directly on television during his promo to hype up Sundays unsanctioned cage match. He admitted he hasnt been cleared, explaining why the match had to be unsanctioned, and added a chilling line about his future: before doctors take a scalpel to me and my neck
Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez noted they dont yet have confirmation on any potential surgery, but Meltzer compared the situation to an injury Kurt Angle once suffered in WWE. Both men admitted its unclear how Ospreay was cleared to wrestle this Sunday.
Meanwhile, Alvarez confirmed Nick Waynes broken foot is 100% legitimate. The ROH TV Champion revealed the injury on Dynamite, though details on the severity and how it happened remain unclear. Meltzer suggested that if surgery isnt required, Wayne could recover in about ten weeks. For now, Wayne will be replaced by Luchasaurus (Killswitch), who teams with Kip Sabian against Adam Copeland and Christian Cage this Sunday.
Konosuke Takeshita also had a rough week. Alvarez shared that Takeshita was knocked batty during his G1 semifinal match with Zack Sabre Jr. and didnt remember the match or his promo afterward. Despite that, Takeshita still wrestled the next night in the finals and then flew to Glasgow for a Collision taping against Tomohiro Ishii. As of now, he has not been announced for Forbidden Door.
Between Ospreays dangerous neck issues, Waynes broken foot, and Takeshitas scary moment in Japan, AEWs roster is taking heavy hits right before one of its biggest shows of the year.
