Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud had a very funny moment after reaching the US Open mixed doubles semifinal as they started arguing about who was the first to reach out and initiate a partnership.

In their debut as a pair, Swiatek and Ruud got off to a lightning start after ousting home combination Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe 4-1 4-2. When they returned to the court a couple of hours later for their quarterfinal clash, the Polish/Norwegian combination was all business again as they made light work of Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti 4-1 4-2.

Swiatek and Ruud's hilarious interaction

After they booked a semifinal spot at Flushing Meadows, the Norwegian said that he thought about asking the Pole to be his mixed doubles partner when she reached out to him: "I had in mind that maybe Iga wanted to play, I'd be down. Then she actually shot me a text and asked if I wanted to play."

The six-time Grand Slam champion was left amused by that statement, firing back: "What? No. You texted me."

However, Ruud remained adamant and insisted: "No. You texted me."

Swiatek then explained: "That's not possible because when your agent asked my agent, I think, or you asked me, I had no idea what I'm signing up for. I was like, 'Yeah okay, I want to play with Casper.' But I didn't know what the tournament is going to look like so it must've been you."

Jokes aside, the most important thing for Swiatek and Ruud is that they are progressing nicely as a pair at the US Open. In the semifinal, they will battle against top seeds Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper.
